The Story
The Throne Built of Gemstones
The original Mor Singhasan — the Peacock Throne — was the most extravagant seat ever built. Commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan, it was encrusted with rubies, emeralds, sapphires, pearls, and diamonds, with two enamelled peacocks standing guard over the Mughal Empire’s most precious jewel: the Koh-i-Noor.
It took seven years to build and was said to cost more than the Taj Mahal itself. The peacock — vain, brilliant, impossible to ignore — was chosen specifically because nothing in nature better represented imperial splendour.
Mor Singhasan is Noir Jaipur’s tribute to that legendary throne — every feather, every jewel, every iridescent shift of colour, recreated in miniature for a single flame to sit upon.
The Vessel
Jewels, Feathers, and Fire
Cast in iridescent brass and enamel — a domed peacock-feather lid set with semi-precious stones, opening onto a body of jewel-toned green and violet.
The dome lid is carved entirely from overlapping peacock feathers, each rendered in raised brass relief — a sculptural feat unique to this single piece
Genuine ruby, emerald, and pearl-finish stones are individually hand-set at the centre of each carved feather “eye” across the dome
A shifting enamel surface moves between teal, violet, and deep emerald depending on the light — exactly as a real peacock’s feathers behave
Unlike any other vessel in the collection, the candle itself is poured in deep sapphire-blue wax — visible the moment the lid is lifted
Solid brass pillars flank the central cartouche, echoing the canopy structure of the original Mughal Peacock Throne
